YOUTH OF THE YEAR
Criteria for Selection as Kid of the Month (elementary)
or Youth of the Month (age 14-18)
• Positive Attitude
• Active engagement at The Club
• Positive relationships with peers & staff
The Kid of the Year and Youth of the Year from each Club participate in a thorough application and selection process. All the monthly honorees and their parents were invited to an awards breakfast with about 200 people where community and family members come to honor them. Below are this year's honorees:
Salida 2013 Youth of the Year and Club Representative to State Youth of the Year Competition
Michaela Medrano is a senior at Salida High School. She has many interests, as she participates in volleyball, competition cheer, National Honor Society, soccer, photography editor for the year book, volunteers for community dinners, youth group, Sunday school teacher at Living Waters Church, Young Life, dancing at Hi Steppin’ Studio, and works & participates at Boys & Girls Club. “Boy & Girls Club gives students a safe place to be themselves and gives all of us a place to go when we need to escape,” Says Michaela Medrano
Being named Youth of the Year is the highest honor a Boys & Girls Club member can receive. As Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s premier youth recognition program, the Youth of the Year title recognizes outstanding contributions to a member’s family, school, community and Boys & Girls Club, as well as personal challenges and obstacles overcome. As the national program sponsor, Tupperware Brands awards each state winner a $1,000 college scholarship and each regional winner a $10,000 scholarship. The national winner receives an additional scholarship up to $50,000 from The Rick and Susan Goings Foundation.
